12-Volt Technician/Installer
Needed in Perris, CA. A local company is seeking a skilled Emergency Vehicle/12-Volt Installation Technician to install, wire, test, troubleshoot, and document electrical and electronic equipment in emergency vehicles, Fire and Police dept., and specialty vehicles. The ideal candidate takes pride in clean wiring, professional workmanship, safety, organization, and reliable vehicle integration. Direct emergency-vehicle experience is preferred, but strong automotive 12-volt, mobile electronics, fleet, radio, alarm, GPS, or accessory-installation experience will also be considered. Wage: $35.00 hr.
Primary Responsibilities
- Install emergency warning lights, sirens, speakers, two-way radios, antennas, cameras, GPS/telematics, consoles, and related equipment.
- Route, secure, protect, label, and terminate automotive wiring and cable assemblies.
- Install relays, fuses, circuit breakers, power-distribution components, and grounding systems.
- Read and follow wiring diagrams, schematics, build sheets, manufacturer instructions, and company standards.
- Perform electrical testing with a digital multimeter and other diagnostic tools.
- Troubleshoot 12-volt electrical, grounding, control, communication, and equipment issues.
- Program or configure applicable equipment when trained and authorized.
- Disassemble and reassemble vehicle interiors and trim without damage.
- Mount equipment securely with attention to serviceability, fit, finish, and vehicle safety systems.
- Document installation changes, fuse locations, ground points, wiring routes, programming information, and completed work.
- Capture installation photographs when required for build sheets and work-order records.
- Perform functional testing and participate in quality-control and final-inspection procedures.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
- Assist and mentor less-experienced installers when assigned.
Preferred Experience
- Automotive 12-volt electrical systems and troubleshooting
- Emergency vehicle or public-safety vehicle upfitting
- Mobile radio and communication equipment
- Emergency lighting and siren systems
- Automotive accessories, alarms, remote start, GPS, cameras, or mobile electronics
- Fleet or commercial vehicle equipment installation
- Custom harness fabrication, crimping, heat-shrink, loom, and wire protection
- Equipment from manufacturers such as Whelen, Federal Signal, Code 3, SoundOff Signal, Motorola, Kenwood, BK Technologies, Havis, or Troy Products
Qualifications
- Ability to understand basic electrical concepts including voltage, current, resistance, circuit protection, grounding, relays, and voltage drop.
- Ability to read basic wiring diagrams and follow installation instructions.
- Ability to use common hand tools, power tools, crimp tools, and a digital multimeter safely.
- Ability to perform neat, reliable, serviceable automotive wiring.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Professional communication and willingness to work as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn installation standards and participate in ongoing training.
- For senior-level candidates: ability and willingness to train, mentor, and support less-experienced installers.
Physical/Work Requirements
- Ability to work inside and around vehicles for extended periods.
- Ability to bend, kneel, reach, climb in and out of vehicles, and work in confined vehicle spaces.
- Ability to safely lift and position installation equipment and vehicle components as required by the job.
- Ability to maintain safe work practices and use required personal protective equipment.
