United Staffing Associates is seeking an experienced & dependable heavy equipment mechanic for an established construction & civil engineering contractor in San Luis Obispo. This position generally works 8-hour days & 40 hours per week. Longer workdays, overtime, or extended workweeks may occasionally be required depending on workload & operational needs. Occasional out-of-town work & overnight stays may also be required. Overnight travel is limited, & the company provides hotel accommodations & per diem for required overnight assignments. This position may also perform work subject to California Prevailing Wage requirements. When applicable, compensation will be paid in accordance with current California Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) prevailing wage rates for the applicable classification & project location. Full-time, Temp-to-Hire position. Wage: $30.00-$50.00 hr. DOE. (#6.0902.106 – San Luis Obispo)

What You'll Be Doing

Duties include: Diagnosing, troubleshooting, maintaining, & repairing construction-related heavy equipment in both shop & field conditions; Performing repairs & maintenance on commercial trucks & company vehicles as needed; Assisting Maintenance Manager with scheduled maintenance & preventative maintenance programs; Responding promptly to equipment repair & service needs to minimize downtime & support field operations; Maintaining regular communication with field crews, supervisors, & Division Management regarding equipment needs & repairs; Assisting with loading, securing, & hauling heavy equipment using tractor & multi-axle trailers when needed, including coverage for vacation schedules; Occasionally assisting with lubrication & fueling of heavy equipment, including operation of company's lube & fuel truck when coverage is needed; Maintaining safe, organized, & professional work environment & following company safety procedures.

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications: Possess current & valid CA Class A driver's license with clean & unrestricted driving status; 2+ yrs exp. diagnosing, maintaining, & repairing heavy construction equipment; Basic computer skills including ability to use maintenance software, email, & web-based resources; Strong written & verbal communication skills; Dependable, professional, & able to work independently as well as part of a team.

Bonus If You Have

2+ yrs exp. loading & hauling heavy equipment within California preferred; Hazardous materials endorsement preferred; Knowledge of current California Air Resources Board (CARB) emissions compliance requirements s preferred, but not required; 2+ yrs exp. with heavy equipment lubrication & fueling procedures preferred.
