Salary $90,000-$105,000 yr. DOE

United Staffing Associates is partnering with a privately owned service provider to recruit an experienced Human Resources Manager. This role is well suited for an HR professional who enjoys taking ownership of the function and serving as the sole HR professional for an organization of approximately 100 employees.

The Human Resources Manager will oversee day-to-day HR while also helping strengthen the practices, processes, and programs that support the company as it evolves. Working directly with ownership, this person will have the opportunity to bring forward ideas, provide value-added perspective, and help shape HR practices rather than simply administer established processes.

This role is well suited for someone who enjoys variety, manages change effectively, and can move comfortably between strategic discussions and hands-on employee matters. The right candidate will be approachable, adaptable, comfortable working with people at every level, and able to flex as priorities shift while maintaining sound judgment and follow-through.

Key Responsibilities
        •  Serve as the primary HR resource for employees, managers, and ownership, providing practical guidance on employee relations, performance concerns, attendance, disciplinary actions, policy interpretation, and employment best practices.
        •  Partner closely with ownership on HR priorities, organizational needs, employee matters, and opportunities to strengthen HR practices and support continued company growth.
        •  Manage employee relations matters from intake through resolution, including workplace complaints, investigations, documentation, corrective action recommendations, performance improvement plans, and employee separations.
        •  Coach and support managers through performance management, employee development, counseling, conflict resolution, and sensitive employee situations.
        •  Lead recruitment, interviewing, screening, selection, onboarding, and hiring processes while maintaining consistent and compliant employment practices.
        •  Oversee employee benefits administration and coordinate with payroll on related employee matters.
        •  Identify opportunities to improve communication, employee engagement, morale, and the overall employee experience.
        •  Serve as the primary point of contact for employee questions regarding benefits, policies, workplace practices, and other HR matters.
        •  Maintain accurate employee records and thorough documentation of employment-related matters.
        •  Manage workers’ compensation claims from initial reporting through resolution, including incident investigations, return-to-work coordination, modified duty, and related cost and risk management.
        •  Stay current on applicable California, federal, and local employment laws and ensure HR policies, practices, and documentation reflect relevant requirements.
        •  Develop, review, and update the employee handbook, policies, procedures, and HR processes in partnership with ownership.
        •  Evaluate existing HR practices and recommend practical improvements that support employees, managers, compliance, and business operations.
        •  Balance immediate employee and operational needs with longer-term HR projects and organizational priorities.

Qualifications & Experience
        •  Minimum of seven years of progressive human resources experience with significant responsibility across multiple HR functions. Experience serving as a primary or senior HR resource within an organization preferred.
        •  Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field strongly preferred.
        •  Strong working knowledge of California labor and employment laws, regulations, and HR compliance requirements.
        •  Demonstrated experience managing employee relations matters, workplace investigations, performance concerns, disciplinary actions, and employee separations.
        •  Working knowledge of leave administration, reasonable accommodations and the interactive process, workers’ compensation, employee benefits, and unemployment claims.
        •  Ability to build credibility and trust with employees, managers, and company ownership.
        •  Comfortable working independently, taking ownership of HR matters, and making thoughtful recommendations without requiring extensive direction.
        •  Adaptable and able to shift priorities as business needs change while maintaining sound judgment and follow-through.
        •  Practical, solutions-oriented approach with the ability to balance employee needs, compliance considerations, and business realities.
        •  Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with employees from a wide range of roles and backgrounds.
        •  Sound judgment, professionalism, discretion, and strong conflict-resolution and problem-solving abilities.
        •  Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage both day-to-day HR responsibilities and longer-term initiatives.
