United Staffing Associates is seeking temporary part-time Library Assistants to perform a variety of administrative and customer service functions for the City Library.
Typical Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
• Use of the Koha/Aspen Library Circulation Management System to assist patrons with accounts, the status of loaned and requested items, check materials in and out, and pull requested items on hold.
• Provide guest passes for computer use and assist with computer related questions.
• Assist patrons with printing from both the library computer and their own personal device.
• Provide superior customer service over the phone and in person.
• Assist patrons with various library-related requests such as registration for classes and events and summer reading.
• Stay up to date on current activities in the library.
• Track and report daily statistics.
• Perform light housekeeping of public areas, including dusting and wiping down tables.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Employment Standards & Special Requirements
Knowledge of:
• Standard office administrative practices and procedures, including the use of standard office equipment such as computers and fax machines
• Business letter writing; techniques for preparing informational materials and the standard format for reports, correspondence, and other written materials
• English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation
• Work related computer applications for word processing, database and spreadsheets, with an emphasis on Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
• Records management principles and practices
• Business arithmetic and basic statistical techniques
• Techniques for providing a high level of customer service to the public, representatives of other agencies, and City staff
Ability to:
• Perform detailed office support work accurately and independently within deadlines.
• Learn to use specialized software such as Libby and eLibrary.
• Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working and customer relationships.
• Use good judgment in dealing with the public and responding to requests for information.
• Prioritize work and handle a variety of activities simultaneously.
• Use initiative while working within established guidelines and procedures.
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Oversee groups of program and facility users.
• Maintain facilities and furniture settings.
Education and Experience
• Equivalent to graduation from high school and either one year of related work experience in a library, office, or classroom setting, or as an intern in an accredited college/university graduate school program.
• English/Spanish bilingual and biliterate proficiency desired.
• Strong customer service experience desired.
Anticipated Duration
This temporary assignment has an estimated duration of four to six months; however, the exact duration is unknown.
Anticipated Schedule
The anticipated weekly schedule will total approximately 16-18 hours/week, with Saturdays required from 9:00 am-4:00 pm. You should also expect to work some weekday evenings until 7:00 pm. The library is closed on Sundays.
